Shasta Fire: Who are we?
We are a community-based volunteer organization of 250+ members located in 18 Shasta County locations, including Big Bend. We are men and women just like you making a difference by supporting our community. PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING!! Shasta County Fire contracts with CAL FIRE to administer and integrate localized fire companies into one cohesive group. This provides a greater force of firefighters and equipment to respond to all types of emergencies throughout Shasta County.
SCFD Volunteer Firefighters respond to various types of calls:
•Structure Fires
•Wildland Fires
•Vehicle Fires
•Medical Aids
•Traffic Accidents
•Hazardous Materials SpillsTraining for Excellence:
Training is an integral part and foundation for an efficient and effective organization. Various skills are both learned and improved upon through continued education.
YOU can become a capable trained:
~Firefighter
~First Responder
~Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
~Fire Engine Operator
~Search and Rescue Responder
~Fire Company OfficerCommunity Involvement:
These programs provide a partnership between volunteers and their own neighborhoods:
•Fire Prevention education for children

•Fund raising for necessary equipment and supplies

*Training takes about 140 hours of instruction (some is on the internet) to be a Full First Responder.
Shasta County’s First Responder training program consists of some introductory courses followed by ongoing training.
Some of the courses are:
•EMR First -Aid with CPR
•Fire Control 1, 2 & 3
•Emergency Management
•Haz Mat: Safely Managing Hazardous Materials
•Automobile Extraction
•Driving Rescue Unit

BB VFC 70 Needs More Drivers! (Class B License)
*To Drive Fire Truck and Ambulance:
1. Clean driving record
2. Take two driving classes
3. Driving instructor signs off on proficiency
4. Written test
5. Cone driving test
6. Full driving test
